Manila American Cemetery | well worth a visit

e6e1c7c4

It may not be the first thing that comes to your mind while you are in Manila, visiting a Cemetery sounds rather odd. Mind you, this visit would be well worth the time. First, a few facts:

The Manila American Cemetery and Memorial contains the largest number of graves of fallen Soldiers of World War II. 17,202 in total. The Cemetery covers an area of 152 acres which is around 62ha or 615,000 square meters.

The Monument also lists the names of more then 36,000 soldiers who are, until today, considered MIA (missing in action). This includes a large number of Filipinos who served as Scouts for the US Forces. Most fallen and missing Soldiers where involved in operations in New Guinea and the Philippines.

The Manila American Cemetery is located in The Global City, in Taguig. You can find it quite easily and it is also well known with Taxi Divers.

A first encounter with Windows 8

13 Well, every once in a while even the most sworn in Mac user will have to use the products from Microsoft. Having said this, here is a first impression of Windows 8 and how it is installed and set up. What version was used: Windows 8 Consumer review, 64 Bit

I decided to use a Virtual Environment to set it up, using VMware. 2GB Ram, 2 Virtual CPU’s, 60GB of Disk space, that’s all you need.

Nagios 3.3.1 on RHEL 5.7 – how to install it from scratch

I thought it was about time that I update my Nagios Installation Doc to something more up to date, so here we go:

Before you start with the Installation, do the following:

Disable SELinux
vi /etc/selinux/config and set SELINUX=disabled.
Reboot system.

SELinux will cause trouble executing cgi scripts later, I had that experience every time when I installed Nagios on RHEL and I had it again today when I did the test install for this document on a VM on my Laptop.

Make sure iptables allows http and https to the server (obviously we want to access the Web Interface to see the Status of our monitored Servers/Devices).
